Booze ban in place for Mighty River Domain

Temporary liquor bans are to be imposed again at the Mighty River Domain, Lake Karapiro.

This means it will be an offence to consume alcohol on specific dates during organised events throughout the year.

Similar bans have been place at the lake since 2011, supported by event organisers, lake and domain users, local residents and police. The ban covers the entire 19-hectare domain with the exception of the Sir Don Rowlands Centre and buildings belonging to sporting groups.

The ban will be relaxed from 5pm - 9pm in the upper campground to allow visitors to enjoy a quiet drink with dinner. The only exceptions to this will be during the last day of the Waka Ama sprint nationals in January 2023 and the hydroplane national championships in February 2023.
