Cameras have been installed at Cambridge’s Terry Came Drive playground following three vandal attacks in the past two weeks.
The two most recent incidents have seen a toilet seat broken twice, the sanitary bin ripped off, the facility tagged, toilet paper stuck to the ceiling and a bucket of cement thrown around, including on the drinking fountain.
Previous damage saw the artistic wall wrap ripped off the toilet, a dozen established plants torn out of the garden and rubbish and plants placed on top of the BBQ.
Since the attacks, the playground BBQ has been turned off to prevent further damage. It will be turned on again when weather warms up.
All three incidents have been reported to Police. Given Cambridge is a small town, and given the materials used, it is likely someone knows something.
The cameras have been installed to film and catch future offenders.
Since the playground opened in October last year there has been four serious vandal attacks. Costs to repair the damage are estimated to be around $16,500.
Anyone who sees vandalism occurring should phone the Police on 111 and if safe, take photos and pass on identifying details including number plates and a description of those involved. Alternatively, if the offenders are no longer on site, the information can be passed to Police using their 105 number and website.
