Become a legend this Christmas
Stop a mate driving drunk - Legend' is the slogan behind Waipa District Council's latest drink drive campaign.
The campaign tags on to the national Bloody Legend' campaign, where mates are encouraged to look out for their friends and family, assisting them to make the right decision around drinking and driving.
The campaign will be launched in time for the Christmas and New Year period. The campaign is also timely due to the reduced Adult blood alcohol level introduced on 1 December. The Legend' campaign will be promoted in licenced premises and key businesses throughout the district.
Waipa District Council, Road Safety Co-ordinator, Megan Jolly said it is important that people do step in to intervene if someone they know is about to drive impaired.
It's ok to speak up, in fact it's our responsibility to do so. No one should have to share the road with an alcohol impaired driver.
The ultimate aim is to reduce alcohol related driving incidents within the Waipa district. Currently alcohol is a factor in 27% of serious and fatal crashes. In Waipa alone there have been 39 serious injury and 12 fatal crashes over the last five years related to alcohol.
