Community invited to library information session

Waipa residents are being invited to an information session on the new Te Awamtu library taking place next week.

The session will be part of the Te Awamutu Community Board meeting and is an opportunity for residents to get an update on the project, discuss the newly released design concepts, and to have their say on sustainability options such as the inclusion of solar power panels and rain water tanks.

The new 1400sqm library will anchor the long-planned Te Awamutu community hub and be built on the corner of Mahoe Street and Selwyn Lane.

For Waipa Mayor Jim Mylchreest, the project is very exciting and will result in a valued space for the whole community.

"Libraries play a crucial role in connecting our communities and it is great to see the project continuing to make progress.

Over the next few months, Council will also be asking for feedback on other parts of the library such as artwork on the exterior of the building, landscaping, and opportunities for the community space area.

The coming months will be particularly exciting as we get to work with the community around the details of the library - including not only how it will end up looking on the outside but how certain parts of it will be used said Mr Mylchreest.

So far the design of the building is looking great. What's better is it has been designed as a multi-functional space. This means if we need to change the type of activities that take place here in the future, that is definitely a possibility.

Next week's information session will take place on Tuesday 11 August in the Council Chambers as part of the August Community Board meeting which is chaired by Community Board Member Richard Hurrell.

The project team will be available to ask questions from 5pm and a presentation will take place from 6pm.
