Council calls for early proposals
11 August 2017
Waipa District Council is urging the community to put up projects now for consideration in its 10-Year Plan.
Work is already underway to pull together the plan and associated budget covering the decade from 2018-2028. Once a draft plan is finalised in early 2018 proposing what will be spent and when, it will be put to the Waipa community for feedback. Final decisions on the plan, including what is and isn't included, will be made by elected councillors in mid-2018.
Council's strategic projects team leader Conan Magill is urging organisations or community groups wanting a project to be considered for inclusion to "speak up now". An application form, requiring an outline of the project and potential costs will be available at www.futurewaipa.co.nz from 15 August. Forms can also be picked up from Council offices.
"We're looking for well-thought out projects with real community benefit, not just 'pie-in-the-sky' ideas," Magill said.
"And we want those ideas in now so they can be considered early on in the planning process. If we wait until we go out for formal community consultation in March next year, it can be too late to incorporate something substantial and with real merit."
Magill said all proposals would be considered and discussed by staff and elected members. Those with merit were likely to be included in the draft 10-Year Plan and put to the community for comment.
Proposals should be completed and with the Council by the end of September.
