Decision on bridge expected tomorrow
6 September 2011
A decision on whether the Victoria Bridge will be reopened will be made by Waipa District Council tomorrow (Wednesday, 7 September).
The bridge was closed almost a fortnight ago after concerns a slip may have compromised the integrity of the bridge supports.
Service delivery manager Barry Bergin said while a preliminary briefing on the results of geo technical investigations was held today, there was still some further information being gathered.
Contractors would be working on the bridge this afternoon to undertake further assessment.
We are confident we will be able to make a final decision based on advice from consulting engineers tomorrow, he said.
