Facelift on way for Te Awamutu roundabout
10 August 2011
A temporary facelift is on the way for the roundabout on the corner of Te Awamutu's Alexandra and Mutu Streets while Waipa District Council investigates reconstruction options.
Road corridor manager Dawn Inglis said the council had been fielding a number of calls about the condition of the road surface as it was rough and starting to break up.
It had been a recurring problem and while the council ultimately would reconstruct the roundabout, there were a number of utility services underground and the future of those had to be investigated first.
In the short term we are investigating the best repair product to provide an interim solution and once the utility companies have investigated their services we can reconstruct the roundabout knowing the road surface will be in good condition for up to 10 years, said Ms Inglis.
We expect the reconstruction to happen within the next 12 to 18 months, but temporary repairs should be underway within the next two months. I appreciate the public's patience during this time.
