Free bus service to Te Awamutu pool

Council will put on free buses between Cambridge and Te Awamutu this summer so Cambridge people can use the Livingstone Aquatic Centre.

Cambridge's public pool is currently closed for major redevelopment. From Monday 10 December, Cambridge residents will be able to catch a bus three days a week to and from the Te Awamutu pool.

A 22-seater bus will leave from Cambridge i-SITE, twice a day (8.30am and 12.30pm) to the Te Awamutu i-SITE each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The bus will return at 11.30am and 4.30pm. Seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. The service will not run over the Christmas and New Year period, resuming again on Monday 7 January. Service details will be advertised locally and posted Council's website and social media channels.

Council's group manager - service delivery Barry Bergin said at this stage, the free bus service will finish on Friday18 January.

This is a first for Council so let's see how it goes. If it proves popular, and there's ongoing demand, we may consider extending it for a bit longer.

Bergin hoped those bussing to Te Awamutu would also take the opportunity to visit the nearby Pioneer Park playground, Library and rose gardens.

The bus service will cost around $9,000 and will be funded from the Cambridge pool operational budget.
