Funding allocated for heritage projects
21 August 2018
Three groups have been allocated $8,145.00 to support heritage initiatives in the Waipā District.
The money comes from Waipa District Council's heritage fund which sets aside $70,000 annually, with two funding rounds per year.
The fund is in its 11th round and is aimed at supporting natural heritage projects (for example, wetland restoration), built heritage projects (for example, building restoration) and cultural or archaeological heritage.
Four applications for the first round of 2018 were received requesting a total of $67,278.
Today's Service Delivery Committee approved three of the four projects. The Cambridge Rugby Sub Union received funding to restore two bronze plaques at the entrance to Memorial park.
Other successful applications included the willow tree eradication and revegetation of a wetland area and funding to restore the replacement of balcony doors at the Masonic Hotel in Cambridge.
One project did not meet the criteria.
The second round of the Heritage fund closes 31 December 2018. More information can be found at www.waipadc.govt.nz/heritagefund
