Have your say on the draft Cambridge Town Belt Management Plan

Waipa residents are being invited to have their say on the future management of Cambridge's Town Belt.

Waipa District Council has released a draft plan outlining the intended management of the 285 hectares of largely recreation reserve and is seeking feedback by March 12.

The Cambridge Town Belt runs around what was historically the town boundary. It is made up of 110 land parcels and is held in four certificates of title.

Property advisor Jane Blackmore said since the adoption of the current management plan in 1996 significant development had occurred on or around the town belt.

It was therefore timely to review that plan in order to ensure it still met statutory and administrative requirements, she said.

The 2011/12 draft reserve management plan has been developed following initial feedback provided from stakeholders.

There are a number of key differences between this draft plan and the 1996 plan. In particular, there is a focus on the connectivity and accessibility of the reserve to surrounding residential areas, as was highlighted as an issue in pre-draft submissions, said Ms Blackmore.

Feedback from the community is important as the plan needs to strike a balance between meeting the competing interests of various community groups and satisfying the requirements of the Reserves Act, she said.
