More consultation to take place over Cambridge pool development
24 April 2011
Waipa District Council will honour its commitment of carrying out more consultation over a swimming pool development in Cambridge, following notification the fundraising committee has not reached the target needed for the proposed covered complex to get the green light.
The Cambridge Pool fundraising committee had been given until April 30 to raise 75 percent of the $4.181 million community fundraising contribution (net of fundraising costs) to see the $14 million development of a 25 metre x eight lane fitness pool, leisure/therapy pool, learn to swim water space and a babies/toddler area proceed.
However, Chief Executive Garry Dyet said the fundraising committee confirmed today they would not be able to reach the target by next Monday's deadline.
This means the project will now be reassessed and more community consultation will be undertaken.
In the meantime, the existing 50 metre pool will continue to operate as a seasonal facility.
