A geometric pattern will take pride of place on Te Awamutu's new library which is set to open late next year.
At yesterday's Service Delivery Committee meeting, councillors were presented with three designs for the filigree on the outside of the new Te Awamutu library building.
The chosen design is simple and bold and reinforces a theme of connectivity. It was created by the library architects and influenced by feedback from the library design panel.
For Council's community facilities manager Tony Roxburgh, the selected design is a great option.
The filigree pattern will be created by punching holes into aluminium panels so an abstract pattern is going to work much better than a full picture. The curve in the chosen design softens the geometric pattern, giving another layer of detail and making the building more welcoming said Mr Roxburgh.
For Waipa Mayor Jim Mylchreest, the design selection is another step forward for the project.
Work is now happening down at the library site which is great to see and now the filigree design has been signed off, I am really looking forward to seeing how it will all come together.
As a council we were looking for a design that was attractive, unique and timeless. In simple terms, it needs to look good and from what I can see, this design will achieve just that.
The library is being built on the corner of Selwyn and Mahoe streets and will become the anchor of Te Awamutu's much awaited community hub development. Fletcher Construction has been awarded the contract to build the library which is scheduled to open late 2016.
