Pool build to begin mid-2018

Waipa District Council has confirmed construction of the new Cambridge pool will begin in mid-2018.
Over the last few months Council staff have been working with architects and contractors to agree details of the building as well as the entrance way on Williamson Street.
Project manager Lorraine Kendrick said the street design was vital to the project.
We need easy access to the pool for all road users, including cyclists and kids on bikes. But we also want to retain a welcoming and attractive street for residents and visitors.
She said there was a lot of "positive hype" around the new facility and people were now, after many years of talking, seeing the project become real.
We know how invested the community is in this facility and we're excited to be getting to the point where everyone can see physical progress of the building starting to take shape.
Latest images of the pool complex and plans for Williamson Street show how traffic, pedestrians, cyclists and mobility scooters will be accommodated. The street design includes underground power, angle car parking, wide shared paths, new tree planting, raised pedestrian ramps and a new bus stop.
Work will begin on the detailed design phase in January 2018, when every single detail of the project will be confirmed.
Detailed design means getting down to the real nuts and bolts of the project. It's when we choose everything from the splash pad equipment to what towel hooks will be in the changing rooms and it's when we place orders for all the equipment that needs to be sourced from overseas, like pool pumps and filters Kendrick said.
Following detailed design, a building consent will be lodged before construction can begin.
The existing Cambridge pool will remain open until 25 February 2018. From 26 February construction personnel will be on and off the site as preparation gets underway for major construction to begin.
The finished pool is timed to open late 2019.
