Rewi St repairs on way
11 December 2014Repairs to the road surface at Rewi St in Te Awamutu will begin next week.
The road has been causing concern since May after a resealing job went wrong.
Waipa District Council refused to pay for the work and the sub-contractor was required to maintain the road through the winter.
With the warmer weather now here, the first stage of the repair work is scheduled for next week.
Once the repairs are done, a new coat of bitumen will be applied.
Council's group manager service delivery Barry Bergin said the council was well aware of concern in the community about the road, and particularly about the sticky bitumen over the last week or so. He apologised for the inconvenience and reiterated no additional costs had been incurred as a result of the rework.
Mr Bergin said, depending on weather, the work on Rewi St should be completed before Christmas.
