Schools raise thousands for Christchurch

Seven Waipa primary schools have raised $3,694 for the Christchurch earthquake Mayoral Fund appeal.
The money was presented to Waipa Mayor Alan Livingston at a special hui (ceremony) in the Council Chamber last week.
Te Awamutu, Pokeru, Pekerau, Pirongia, St Patrick's, Ohaupo and Kihikihi primary schools held various fundraising activities for pupils to participate in by giving a gold coin donation.
Activities included a range of special 'days', including red and black, mufti, heroes and pizza day.
The schools also made cards with messages of hope and support for the people of Christchurch. Mayor Livingston will forward these on to Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker.
The amount raised by each school that was donated to the Mayoral Earthquake Appeal:
Pokuru School - $406.80
TA Primary School - $710.60
Pekerau School - $1173.60
Pirongia School - $477.30
St Patrick's School - $200.00
Ohaupo School - $275.70
Kihikihi School - $450.00
Te Awamutu College also recently held a mufti day to raise funds for the appeal.
