Session to share plans for Cambridge

Cambridge residents are being urged to attend an open session to find out more about plans for the centre of town.

A number of major projects will kick off within the next couple of months including a new roundabout on the corner of Victoria and Cambridge Roads, plus developments around Lake Te Ko Utu and Lake Street.

Waipa District Council has organised the event based at the Pink Church. Representatives from the NZ Transport Agency (responsible for the roundabout build) will attend along with those behind the planned Lakewood retail and residential development.

Group manager service delivery Barry Bergin said staff would be at the Pink Church to explain plans including the Council's long-term vision around creating an entrance to Cambridge and connecting Lake Te Ko Utu and the new Lakewood Development to the central business district.

There's been a lot of talk about what's planned but there's also been some confusion especially around issues like what trees are and aren't being removed, Bergin said.

This is a chance to be very clear on the proposals and to discuss other opportunities for Cambridge including street-lighting, landscaping and what might happen with the historic Lake Te Ko Utu gates.

Walking tours on the day will very clearly identify which trees are likely to be removed as a result of the projects.

The open session will be held at the Pink Church from 2pm- 6pm on Thursday July 21.
