Slip repair work underway near Victoria Bridge
22 August 2011
Contractors have begun work to repair a slip near Cambridge's Victoria Bridge.
Waipa District Council Roading Corridor Manager Dawn Inglis said the slip happened several months ago but due to the delicate location and nature of the river bank soil, care had been taken to identify a repair that would be long-lasting.
Avalon Industrial Services are undertaking the work and are using abseilers to install a series of horizontal rock anchors into the river bank, which will provide support for matting on the face of the bank plants to adhere to, said Ms Inglis.
The drainage system on the bridge will also be modified to ensure that stormwater from the bridge surface is directed away from the riverbanks and will discharge directly into the river, she said.
Screens have been erected on the roadside to ensure drivers are not distracted by the work taking place.
The work is expected to be complete within 10-12 weeks.
