Te Rahu Road sewer repair
23 September 2015
The weekend's downpour has collapsed and blocked a sewer main in Te Rahu Road.
Council contractors and staff have been working in the area since the event occurred.
Excavation started overnight on Tuesday and repair work will continue until the end of this week.
The 1 in 10 year' rain event on Sunday caused a manhole on the footpath outside a driveway on Te Rahu Road to collapse, blocking the sewer pipe below.
Council's Water Services Manager, Tony Hale says residents have been kept informed while the repair work is carried out.
The driveway we are working in is the access way for a number of homes, and we let them know as soon as possible about the work we needed to do. They were given time to move their cars on to the street before we started the work.'
Mr Hale said residents along the road were also advised of the work to keep them in the loop.
Traffic management is in place to slow down traffic passing the site. We have also closed the footpath but people are still able to walk around the site safely without getting in the way of traffic.
