Victoria Bridge in Cambridge is closed
22 October 2015
A 42 tonne truck travelled over the Cambridge high level bridge last night and has damaged some of the the bridge railings.
Due to the truck being far beyond the bridge's weight limit of 3 tonnes, the precautionary measure has been taken to close the bridge. The bridge will remain closed until engineers can carry out a structural inspection today.
Once the bridge has been structurally checked and confirmed safe, the bridge will reopen. At this stage, it is unknown how long the bridge will remain closed for.
Detours are currently being arranged and traffic management is in place. This is likely to cause significant traffic congestion particularly during peak traffic times as motorists will need to use the lower level bridge.
Update:
One lane of the high level bridge (lane allowing motorists to travel from Leamington into CBD) is now open. The other lane has the rail damage and remains closed. At this stage, it is unknown how long for. Motorists travelling from the CBD to Leamington will need to continue to use the lower level bridge.
