Waipa celebrates trade graduates
10 November 2017
Waipa graduates were recognised last night for their achievements in gaining a national qualification with an Industry Training Organisation (ITO).
The twelfth annual Waipa Trades Graduation Ceremony was held at the Council Chambers in Te Awamutu in association with Waipa District Council and the Mayors Taskforce for Jobs.
The taskforce works to ensure young people under 25 are in education, training or employment. It also helps to provide local solutions to local problems, develops partnerships with government agencies at local levels, and offers an environment and clear message to young people of their value and worth within the community.
Waipa mayor Jim Mylchreest presented the qualifications at the ceremony and says it's great to see so many local people taking up a trade.
We are proud to recognise the achievements of those gaining their trade qualifications. We hope it encourages more people to choose to work in our district and to aspire to higher qualifications, he said.
We must also acknowledge the support of local businesses towards ITO and their commitment to training our apprentices. Their support makes all of this possible.
This year's graduates achieved qualifications across a range of trades including agriculture, motor industry, water reticulation and animal health.
