Water restrictions move to Alert Level 2
2 February 2011
A rise in water demand has seen the Waipa District move to Alert Level 2 effective immediately.
This means sprinklers can only be used on alternate days between the hours of 6am and 8am and 6pm and 8pm. People living at addresses with an odd street number can use sprinklers on dates ending in an odd number, and people living at addresses with an even street number can use sprinklers on dates ending in an even number.
Water Services Manager Lorraine Kendrick said that despite the rain over recent weeks and the relatively wet summer, recent spells of fine weather has seen demand on water supply increase throughout the district.
Water use is now at a level where we must take further action to ensure we are able to provide consistent supply throughout the summer and high demand periods, she said.
Changes in alert levels will be notified in local newspapers, on the council's website www.waipadc.govt.nz and on its Facebook page www.facebook.com/WaipaDistrictCouncil.
