Water restrictions still in force despite rain
20 January 2011
Water restrictions remain in force in the Waipa District despite the rain over recent weeks.
Water Services Manager Lorraine Kendrick said demand was still at a level that justified Alert Level 1, which means sprinkler systems are only permitted between 6am and 8am and 6pm and 8pm, to continue.
Despite the rain over recent weeks demand is continuing to slowly increase and if it continues to do so we may need to look at going to the next level, when sprinklers would only be permitted between 6-8am and 6-8pm on alternate days, she said.
We have been monitoring the demand over a number of weeks and it has been increasing as the weather improves. We are encouraging people to take responsibility for using water wisely and to limit consumption for non-essential activities such as watering gardens. .
Changes in alert levels will be notified in local newspapers, on the council's website www.waipadc.govt.nz and on its Facebook page www.facebook.com/WaipaDistrictCouncil.
