Albert Park pump station works resume

Situated adjacent to the Hot Rod Club, Waipā District Council’s Albert Park pump station upgrade is part of the Waikeria pipeline project which kicked off in September last year.

Council’s service delivery group manager, Dawn Inglis, said the work signals the start of more visible works for Te Awamutu residents.

“The Waikeria pipeline project is a major piece of infrastructure that will move wastewater from Waikeria through Kihikihi to Te Awamutu for treatment at our modern wastewater treatment plant.

“Great progress is being made at the Waikeria Pump Station and the Te Awamutu Wastewater Treatment Plan upgrade started late last year in November.”

Visitors using the Pioneer walkway, Pioneer Playground and the Rose Gardens may notice an increase of construction activity throughout February and March as the new pipeline from Albert Park is laid underground between Albert Park Drive, Arawata Street and Mutu Road.

As the works progress, new pipes will be laid along a number of residential streets, including Mangapiko Street, Factory Road and Daphne Street.

Work on the new wastewater pipe that will connect Waikeria Pump Station with Kihikihi is also making good progress within prison grounds, and is due to hit Waikeria Road at the end of January. The majority of both sections of pipe will be installed using directional drilling techniques rather than the traditional open cut method, which is more visible.

Once completed, the new pump station will be able to move more than 9,108m3 (or approximately three Olympic-sized swimming pools) worth of wastewater flows a day at peak times. The project was outlined in the 2018-2028 10 Year Plan to upgrade the wastewater network across the district.
