Over 500 responses to Memorial Park plan
A significant number of public submissions have been received on Waipā District Council’s draft Memorial Park concept plan, which closed on Monday.
Of the 514 submissions received, 30 percent came via the online survey, with 70 percent provided as hard copy or email submissions.
Council’s community services manager, Sally Sheedy, said the large number of submissions indicated there was high interest from the community in the plan.
“Extending the consultation period has enabled us to engage with the community by holding drop-in sessions and guided walks for our councillors and community board members. The additional time has clearly resulted in a greater number of submissions which is fantastic.”
The consultation period was extended due to Covid-19 with submissions closing at 5pm, Monday 13 July 2020.
“We’re looking forward to reviewing the feedback so we can see exactly what aspects the community is supportive of and what it is against. This will be presented back to the Community Board in September and Council in October,” Sheedy added.
Community feedback and the Community Board’s position will be presented to the Strategic Planning & Policy (SP&P) Committee on 6th October.
The committee will consider community feedback prior to any changes being made to the draft concept plan. The final concept plan is expected to be ready for presentation to the SP&P Committee for adoption in December 2020.
