Local firm to install pipes for new subdivisions
Council has started the first tranche of pipe installations to service major subdivisions in Cambridge following a contract award to a local firm.
The $2 million contract was awarded by Waipā District Council to Waipa Civil, an experienced contractor with a wealth of local knowledge. The contract will see water and wastewater pipes installed to enable new subdivisions to be built in Cambridge’s northwest.
Council’s service delivery group manager, Dawn Inglis, said Waipa Civil had come out on top of a competitive process.
“Waipa Civil have proven experience in infrastructure installations over many years in the district. We received nine tender applications for the new subdivision pipelines and I’m pleased to see a local firm ticked all the right boxes.”
“Cambridge’s population is set to grow by 14,000 people by 2050 and it is the epicentre for growth in Waipā. Our challenge is to make sure new subdivisions connect seamlessly with established areas, so we can maintain the essense of what makes Cambridge such a special town to belong to.”
“We’ve been talking about these new growth areas in north west Cambridge for many years so it’s exciting to see the first physical works get underway.”
The new subdivisions, known as C1, C2 and C3, are to be built in the greenfields area opposite Te Awa Lifecare village. Once completed, they will accommodate up to 2,500 homes, a 1,000 pupil primary school, and a large supermarket.
