Former Bunnings building sub-leased
Te Awamutu’s former Bunnings building in Arawata St has been sub-leased.
Waipā District Council purchased the building in May 2021, paying $2.05 million and leasing the land from the Parish of St John. Council has now sub-leased the land and building to AgTech Logistics Ltd for at least the next 18 months.
The sub-lease was effective from August 1, 2022 with the commercial terms remaining confidential.
Since it was purchased the building has been sub-leased to the Ministry of Health for a temporary Covid-19 vaccination centre and has had other, one-off uses.
Council purchased the building just over a year ago, earmarking it for Te Ara Wai. Te Ara Wai will be a museum to showcase Waipā and New Zealand history with a focus on the New Zealand Land Wars.
The sub-lease allows for Council to have continued access to the building as required, in order to progress the Te Ara Wai project.
