Council a winner at major geospatial awards

Waipā District Council has won a top geospatial award for its early work on the development of Ahu Ake – Waipā Community Spatial Plan.
The plan, which is less than halfway through its development, won the Community Impact category at the Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence awards in Wellington last night.
Judges noted Waipā’s innovative approach to using GIS modelling and StoryMaps to explore what the future of the district could look like, and tell that story in an engaging and easy-to-understand way.
Waipā District Council strategy group manager Kirsty Downey said it was a fantastic achievement.
“This is our first community spatial plan and the fact we have won this award speaks volumes about the hard work that has already gone into creating this plan.”
Waipā’s entry was up against a host of other entries from across New Zealand.
The entry will now move forward into the regional Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards where it will be judged against other entrees from the wider pacific region.
The awards celebrate the best, most innovative projects that use spatial data to solve real-world problems and recognise the highest standard of achievement in the geospatial industry.
