Wastewater infrastructure gets an upgrade to support growth
Work has started on a new wastewater pump station in Te Awamutu’s Pekerau Reserve to meet current levels of service and increasing demand and support new growth in the area.
The pump station will connect the neighbouring areas to the south of Cambridge Road to the main wastewater network.
Construction is expected to be completed by October.
Waipā District Council’s water services manager Martin Mould said it was important to keep up with growth and ensure the network supports development.
“Making sure our networks can keep up with the higher demands new development brings and ensuring we meet our levels of service, is why we have invested in water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades,” said Mould.
A section of the footpath between Cambridge Road and Pekerau Reserve, as well as a portion of the dog exercise area will be closed during the construction period. A detour will be in place for pedestrians and dog walkers, with access to Pekapekarau School and the dog exercise area via Gleneagles Drive. This will add about 10 minutes to the walk.
“While a section of the dog exercise area is closed, we will make some improvements by contouring and landscaping the area to make it more interesting for our furry friends.”
Road shoulder closures along Cambridge Road may be required during the project. The contractors are working with local businesses to find the safest solution to carry this out if required.
