Shelterbelts and crop protection structure rules to become clearer
People are being encouraged to have their say on Waipā District Council’s rules on shelterbelts and artificial crop protection structures.
The Draft Plan Change 25 to the Waipā District Plan is now open for public feedback. The plan change sets out to clarify the rules around shelterbelts and artificial crop protection structures for horticultural farming activities.
District plan and growth manager Wendy Robinson said climate change and the need to diversify have changed the district’s traditional pastoral farming activities to include more horticulture.
"It's about striking the balance between maintaining the productive use of rural land for farming purposes and managing any adverse effects on the neighbouring environment arising from these structures."
The Draft Plan Change 25 is available on the Have Your Say website, where you can ask questions and provide feedback. You can also find details there for our webinar, planned for 30 September, which will share more information.
Feedback received will contribute to finalising the draft to go out for formal public consultation in early 2025. haveyoursay.waipadc.govt.nz/planchange25
