Funding opens for Waipā events
Calling all event organisers, Waipā’s event fund is open for applications.
The District Promotion Fund aims to support events that drive economic activity and promote Waipā as a great place to live, work, invest in, or visit.
In response to the financial challenges the council faced during the development of the 2024/25 Enhanced Annual Plan, the amount available for event support was reduced from $150,000 to $75,000.
As part of that process, the Community Event Fund was also disestablished.
All event organisers are encouraged to consider the District Promotion Funds criteria and apply or reach out to council’s events advisors for advice.
Group manager customer and community services Sally Sheedy said council acknowledged the impact these cuts may have on events but reassured event organisers that support was still available.
“We recognise local events play an essential role in strengthening our community connections and providing opportunities for people to come together.
“Although the funding pool is smaller this year, we’re still keen to support events that bring value to our district and promote a strong sense of community,” Sheedy said.
The delay in the funding opening this year has been attributed to discussions about revising the criteria. However, following an initial revision and a risk analysis, it was identified that more work needed to be done in consultation with the community before any changes were implemented.
“By engaging on this event strategy and ensuring it aligns with the strategic direction we are heading in with the Long Term Plan, Ahu Ake and future Economic Wellbeing Strategy, we will be able to take the community along with us in carving out our niche,” Sheedy said.
Event organisers are encouraged to submit applications by 5pm, Friday, October 11. More details and the application form can be found at waipadc.govt.nz/districtpromotionfund.
