Tamariki will have a new playground to explore this weekend at Kings Garden in Cambridge.
A timber and rope climbing structure is the main new feature for the space on the corner of Carnation Court and Tulip Drive.
Community services manager Brad Ward said the park has been revamped into a vibrant space for families to enjoy, relax and play, and will enhance community wellbeing.
“The climbing structure is an awesome addition - it allows kids to be curious and test their balance and climbing skills.
“We haven’t used this structure at other playgrounds, as we try to make each playground in the district unique, to give people variety and keep tamariki interested.”
The original swing set has been refurbished, while the 17-year-old slide has been replaced due to its age and poor condition.
The facility also includes a toddler mound, tipi [carousel], timber play, plenty of seating and natural shade from the established trees.
“Local playgrounds are vital to our communities. They offer a safe and fun space for tamariki and their whānau to play and stay active right in their own neighbourhoods,” Ward said.
The design for the space was developed with community input following engagement in October last year when the public was able to have their say on the equipment they wanted to see at Kings Garden.
“We wanted to excite people to engage and be active. Through smart design and the right play equipment choices, we’ve increased the play value so more people can enjoy this neighbour treasure together.”
The $345,000 playground was budgeted for in the council’s 2024/25 Enhanced Annual Plan, which was consulted on with the community.
The playground will be open from midday tomorrow.
