Waipā District Councillor Lou Brown has been formally appointed as chair of the Waikato Civil Defence Emergency Management Group’s Joint Committee.
The Te Awamutu Ward representative said he was honoured to take on the role and felt the gravity of its importance.
“I plan to continue to focus on the 4 R’s – reduction, readiness, response and recovery - particularly reduction and readiness, as it is so important that our infrastructure is prepared for everything that could be thrown at it.”
Brown has represented Waipā on the joint committee for the past two terms and was the deputy chair. Following the resignation of former chair, Taupō District Councillor Anna Park, he was unanimously elected to the top job at the March meeting to serve as chair until the end of the triennium in October. Hamilton City Councillor Emma Pike was appointed deputy chair.
“I am a bit older than the others, so I am happy to have Emma, at the other end of the age scale, as deputy. It is necessary to pass on the information and the learnings to assist with future proofing the joint committee,” Brown said.
The joint committee provides leadership in delivering co-ordinated and collaborative Civil Defence Emergency Management arrangements within the Waikato Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group area.
