Road signs

We provide standard road signs, street name signs and signs that give direction to major destinations along our main roads. If you notice a sign missing or broken you can let us know here info@waipadc.govt.nz or call 0800 924 723.

From time to time businesses and community groups need signs to direct visitors to public amenities or services which are not on main roads and so may be harder to find. To avoid excessive clutter and to ensure consistency of signage, we have adopted a policy of approving signs only where such amenities:

• offer facilities or services available to the wider community; and
• regularly attract visitors likely to be unfamiliar with the area
• where signs are in keeping with national standards shown in the NZTA Traffic Control Devices Manual.
• Where signs are generic in nature, rather than displaying specific names, e.g. church, community hall.

Installation and on-going maintenance work is carried out by Waipa District Council's signs contractor, with all costs being the responsibility of the applicant.

Signs that need to be sited on State Highways require approval from the New Zealand Transport Agency, phone 07 958 7840.

Street lights

We operate a network of streetlights throughout our towns. Most are LED technology.

Streetlights are maintained and serviced by our contractors who patrol main roads regularly and repair faults, but we rely on residents to report faults in residential areas.

If a light near you is not working, contact us on 0800 924 723 and we'll arrange for a contractor to repair it. Remember to give a good description of the light location, such as the nearest street address, and a description of the problem as the contractor will repair it during daylight hours when the lights are not functioning.

If the light is on a State Highway, please contact the New Zealand Transport Agency by phoning 07 958 7220.

Lights on private roads

Lights on private lanes or right of ways are owned by the properties down the lane, all power and/or repair charges are the responsibility of the property owners. You'll need to contact an electrical contractor for assistance.
