Party in the Park - Welcome home to our Olympians and Paralympians
We're excited to welcome home our Paris Olympic and Paralympic athletes to Waipā next month, following New Zealand's most successful Olympic campaign in history!
Come along to a fun-filled evening celebrating our Olympians and Paralympians at Victoria Square in Cambridge on Friday, December 13, from 4pm to 6pm.
Confirmed athletes attending include cyclists Ellesse Andrews, Shanne Fulton, Rebecca Petch, Bryony Botha and Emily Sherman, rowers Brooke Francis and Phoebe Spoors, sailor Micah Wilkinson and teammate Erica Dawson and para-cyclists Anna Taylor and Devon Briggs.
What's on
- 20 Waipā athletes, their coaches, and their support crew will be honoured at the Civic ceremony at 3pm and community event.
- The athletes will take the stage starting at 4pm, giving the community a chance to celebrate our local champions. You can grab autographs, see their medals up close, and take selfies.
- Food trucks – Delicious bites and refreshing drinks from Cosana, Mizzoni Woodfire Pizza, Tauwhare Berry Farm, Mr Whippy and Cy-co The Cycle Coffee Company with more confirming this week.
- Family-fun activities
- Live music – Featuring DJ Ricki
- Live interviews – Camille Guzzwell from The Breeze will be interviewing the athletes with some of your burning questions. Keep an eye on our social media for details on how to submit your questions!
Traveling to Victoria Square
- A free bus service to the event will be running from Te Awamutu and Hamilton. Further details to come.
- We encourage people to walk, scoot or bike to the event to minimise parking pressure.
