Kings Garden playground
A new timber and rope climbing structure is just one of the features planned for the new neighbourhood playground at Kings Garden on the corner of Carnation Court and Tulip Drive.
Community input has helped design the space following engagement in October last year. The public had their say on what future play equipment they wanted at Kings Garden.
The community feedback had helped maximise the value of play and ensured it was a space that will be well loved and used by tamariki.
From the 56 responses received, the top play features people wanted were sliding, balancing, climbing and crawling. All of those have been incorporated into the design.
The facility will also include a toddler mound, tipi, timber play and seating, alongside the existing swing set.
We will be able to refurbish the current swing set there but unfortunately the 17-year-old slide will have to be replaced due to its age and condition.
Equipment has been included to cater to under five-year-olds and ages between six and 10 to reflect the community feedback.
The $345,000 playground was budgeted for in the Council’s 2024/25 Enhanced Annual Plan which was consulted on with the community.
Construction will start on Monday, August 5 and is expected to be finished early October.
