Te Awamutu War Memorial Park pond

High levels of the bacteria E.coli has been detected in the water of Te Awamutu’s War Memorial Park’s pond.

This is likely due to faecal contamination from ducks, rodents and possibly humans.

Please stay out of the pond when you are visiting the park. E.coli can make humans and animals sick.

• Avoid coming into contact with the water
• Do not drink from the pond
• Do not let your dog drink or come into contact with the water

We will continue to monitor the pond and have increased testing to fortnightly.

We are turning off the fountain in the pond because it needs to be manually cleaned by Council staff every three weeks, and it is no longer safe for staff to enter the pond.

Warning signs have been installed around the pond.
