Dispensation in a Liquor Ban area
If you are planning an event in an alcohol ban area and wish to include alcohol, you will need to have approval from council in way of a dispensation. For example if you were planning to have a wedding ceremony in a park.
Council may grant a dispensation under Public Places Alcohol Control Bylaw 2015 to enable possession and/or consumption of alcohol in a public place within an alcohol ban area at the time of the event.
If you would like further advice you can contact our Environmental Health Team.
Note: Dispensation will only be granted in respect of specific time periods and specific locations to enable better enjoyment of the event by the public and is likely to be subject to certain conditions or requirements.
If a special licence has been issued for the sale of alcohol, then dispensation to the Bylaw is automatically given, so an application for dispensation is not required.
