New rules for building homes in Cambridge, Kihikihi and Te Awamutu

Plan Change 26 is Waipā District Council’s response to central government’s 2021 housing laws, which mandated housing intensification in urban areas. It will significantly change what people can build on their properties.

All properties in Cambridge, Kihikihi and Te Awamutu are now contained within the Medium Density Residential Zone, which allows up to two dwellings per site apart from those deemed to be in a character cluster area.

Council has prepared frequently asked questions and five practice guides to help people understand these changes.
