Background
Several roads in the district have been identified as being targeted by after hours anti-social driving behaviours. These behaviours interfere with the safety of traffic and creates a nuisance for affected communities.
To help address the issue, Council has designated several roads in the district for inclusion in a light motor vehicle prohibition, under the Waipā District Council’s Public Places Bylaw 2023.
The prohibition will give police additional enforcement tools to manage anti-social driving behaviours, such as:
- Racing
- Cruising
- Burnouts
- Donuts
- Excessive speed
- Loud engine noise
The effectiveness of the prohibition will still depend on the ability of Police to respond to calls. Residents will still need to report antisocial activity to the Police at the time it is happening or the very next day to allow the Police to monitor problem areas.
